Mom Fit Mondays: Week 5

Today’s task: take a traditional work out tool (ie hand weights, jump rope, bench press, etc) and share an alternative way to work-out with it using something you already have in your house. Or even better, tell us about a weigh to work out at home that doesn’t require any tools at all.

I have a few tricks I like to use for various at-home workouts. I use old gatorade bottles filled with water as hand weights. I have an old broom that I took the broom piece off (really simple) and use as a stabilizing bar (I have a few Pilates/Yoga videos that use that). But my very most favorite work-out tool is my kids. Crunches while holding an 18-month old...those things burn. Push-up with a 2-year old on my back....burns.Squats while holding a 1-year old...burn. Plus, my kids are involved. Works out for all of us.

And now for my the update of my goals:

Monday

Woke up at 6:30am

Fruit: Orange

Veggie: Caesar Salad with Light Dressing

Exercise: 20 mins on elliptical

Tuesday:

Woke up at 6:30am

Fruit: Apple

Veggie: Asparagus

Exercise: None

Wednesday:

Woke up at 7:00am

Fruit: Craisins

Veggie: Green Beans

Exercise: 20 mins on elliptical

Thursday:

Woke up at 6:45am

Fruit: Orange

Veggie: Cabbage

Exercise: None

Friday:

Woke up 6:30am

Fruit: Apple

Veggie: Zucchini

Exercise: Took kids on neighborhood walk

Did decent on last weeks goals. Missed one day of exercise...just couldn't get motivated. I am definitely starting to feel the hugeness take its toll on my body. 7 more weeks. 7 more weeks. Warm weather is here, so walks should become more frequent...well that is my hope anyway.

This was so much fun. I really feel like accounting for myself each week helped me stay disciplined and even develop some really great habits. Thanks for doing this Cat!!

Exercise: Walked the mall with the kids, 25 mins on elliptical

Wednesday:

Bad night sleep, woke up at 8:30

Fruit: Apple

Veggie: Asparagus

Exercise: 20 mins on elliptical

Thursday:

Woke up at 7:15am

Fruit: Orange

Veggie: Green Beans

Exercise: Took kids on walk around neighborhood, on their scooters. Realized desperate need for Bumbleride. Coordination is not really our thing.

Friday:

Woke up 6:30am

Fruit: Apple

Veggie: Zucchini

Exercise: 20 mins on elliptical

I omitted treat counting because I realized I need a little treat daily. It is important for my sanity. I have just changed my perspective. By allowing myself a small treat (like a couple bites of ice cream) I am eliminating my urge to binge. Was a much better week mentally because of this, I believe.

Goals are getting better. Waking up earlier is feeling good. Eating is feeling good. Exercise is getting more exhausting but I can take it for seven more weeks, I hope.

MomFit Monday Week 3

Today’s task: find, fix, and share one healthy recipe. It could be some healthy snacks, a dessert, or even a morning shake.This is my favorite recipe. Super fast and easy, and I would call it healthy, especially considering how truly fast and easy it is. Not to mention tasty!!Super Easy Pumpkin Muffins

INGREDIENTS
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 12 cup muffin pan or line with paper liners.
In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix, pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves until smooth. Spoon equal amounts of batter into the prepared muffin cups.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted in the center of one comes out clean.

And that's it. I didn't forget any ingredients. This recipe is so fast and so easy to make variations to. Use whatever cake mix you have in the pantry (spice cake is extra yummy). Add nuts or raisins, or chocolate chips. Top with a powdered sugar glaze or serve with whipped cream. Or just take them out of the oven and pop them in your mouth. You can't lose with these puppies!

As far as my goals go, this week was pretty much in the crapper, but I feel justified in blaming it all on having family in town. And Easter. Hello, how am I suppose to refrain from eating the kids chocolate???

I didn't exercise once, went to bed late every night (but I did get up early every morning except Saturday), ate too many treats, but I did have at least one serving of veggies and one serving of fruit every day. We also took the kids into the city on Thursday, which definitely counts as a walk, and then took them for a walk to ride their new scooters on Saturday.

This week I am hitting my goals hard. Only 9 more weeks until this baby comes and I need my body to be physically and mentally ready!!

Mom Fit Mondays, Week 2

This week

So, here is my report for last week:

1. Exercise 3 times a week for at least 20 minutes

I accomplished this one. 25 mins on the elliptical Monday, 25 mins on Wednesday, and 20 mins on Thursday.

2. Go for a walk with the kids 2 times a week.

Okay, this one I failed, but I am blaming it on the weather (there is always an excuse right). It is freezing here. I did strap my two-year old in her stroller and walked the mall with her for 2 hours (okay...there may have been a little shopping included in that time).

3. Limit treats to 3 times a week (okay, this might seem like a lot, but this will take a lot of effort on my part...I might be a junk foodaddict)

I did pretty well on this one. I need to do a better job of record keeping my treat intake. Goal for this week!

4. Go to bed before 11pm every night and wake up before 7am.

Failed. This one is going to be a huge challenge. Pregnancy and sleep just don't coincide for me. I have got to keep working on this one. At least the getting up earlier part.

5. Eat at least one serving of fruit and one serving a veggies daily (okay, so this may not sound like a lot, but a girl has got to start somewhere)

I did really well on my veggies. I remember only eating fruit twice this week. Weird because I like fruit more than veggies. Need to do a better job record keeping this one as well.

This week is going to be bad. In-laws are coming to town, which means pretty much all my goals may get flushed down the toilet. But I promise to try to do my best!!

3 Kids and Us is starting a new segment called MomFit Mondays. Considering that I am 29 weeks pregnant, losing weight is not really an option right now. But staying active and healthy is incredibly important to me as I am growing a life in my tummy and I want the best for this little being and as I strongly believe there is a correlation between activity level during pregnancy and ease of weight loss postpartum.

So, I am going to participate. My first step is setting some goals, and I will share them with you, in an effort to keep me honest and motivated.
